What We Design Around In Melkbosstrand

💨

West Coast Wind Loading

Constant onshore wind off the West Coast means racking and mounting hardware needs to be rated for more than a typical inland suburb — we size and fix accordingly.

🏪

Blown Sand & Panel Wear

Wind-blown sand is a fact of life on this stretch of coast. We select hardware and panel positioning that holds up to abrasion, not just salt.

📱

Remote Monitoring For Holiday Homes

Many Melkbosstrand properties sit empty between visits. We set up remote monitoring so a fault gets flagged long before anyone is next on site.

Why A Melkbosstrand Solar Installation Isn’t A Generic Cape Town Job

Melkbosstrand sits directly on the West Coast, where onshore wind and blown sand are constant rather than occasional — and where a large share of properties are holiday homes that sit empty for weeks at a time. That combination changes both how we engineer the mounting and how we set the system up for monitoring. We don’t quote a Melkbosstrand installation off a standard template — our site visit accounts for wind exposure and how often the property is actually occupied.

Thermo Group solar installation work in Melkbosstrand, Cape Town

Built For Constant Onshore Wind And Sand

The wind here doesn’t let up the way it does in more sheltered suburbs, and blown sand adds a layer of wear that inland installers rarely plan for. Every Melkbosstrand installation uses wind-rated racking and hardware chosen to handle sand abrasion and salt spray together, not just one or the other.

Thermo Group solar installation team in Melkbosstrand, Cape Town

Designed For Homes That Sit Empty

With so many Melkbosstrand properties used as holiday homes, a slow fault can go unnoticed for weeks. We set every system up with remote monitoring and clear alerting, so issues get caught early even when nobody’s on site to notice.

We Don't Just Install — We Maintain

At Thermo Group, our relationship with our Melkbosstrand clients doesn’t end when the solar installation is complete.

We offer ongoing maintenance and servicing for Melkbosstrand solar systems, helping ensure equipment keeps operating safely and efficiently despite the West Coast’s wind, sand and salt exposure. Our team can assist with inspections, fault finding, inverter issues, battery systems, electrical connections and general system maintenance.

Regular maintenance can also help identify potential problems before they become expensive failures.

SSEG & City of Cape Town Registration

Installing a solar system is only part of the process. Where required, your system must also be properly documented and registered with the City of Cape Town.

Thermo Group can assist clients with the SSEG application and registration process, helping ensure that the required documentation, electrical compliance requirements and system information are correctly dealt with.

Our goal is to make the process as straightforward as possible for the property owner.

Melkbosstrand Solar Installation FAQs

How much does solar installation cost in Melkbosstrand?

It depends on your household’s usage and system size — a small backup system for essentials during load shedding costs far less than a full system covering your whole home. We assess your usage and roof before quoting, so you get an accurate price rather than a generic estimate.

How long does a solar installation take in Melkbosstrand?

Most residential installations take 1 to 3 days on site, depending on system size and roof complexity, plus the time needed for approvals. We’ll give you a clear timeline once we’ve assessed your property.

Does the West Coast wind and salt affect a new installation in Melkbosstrand?

Yes. Constant onshore wind and salt spray are part of daily life here, so we specify corrosion-resistant hardware and secure mounting rated for sustained wind loading from day one.

Will solar keep my home running during load shedding?

Yes. A correctly installed and configured solar and battery system will keep your essential circuits running during load shedding, and we handle the City of Cape Town’s SSEG registration and Notice of Completion as part of every installation.

Do you also handle compliance certificates and ongoing maintenance for the system?

Yes. We issue the Solar Certificate of Compliance your installation needs, and we offer ongoing maintenance and fault-finding to keep it performing well for years — whether we installed it or another company did.
