Character Homes, Older Wiring
Many homes in Devil’s Peak Estate date from the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, with high ceilings, timber floors and pressed-metal or timber ceilings. They are beautiful, but their electrical installations have usually been changed many times. Wiring may run through timber floors and roof spaces that are hard to reach, older sections may still be in place behind newer fittings, and additions over the years may not have been certified. We inspect carefully and use proper testing to find faults without unnecessary damage to period finishes.
Renovating A Period Home
If you are restoring or renovating, this is the best time to deal with the electrical installation, while floors and ceilings are open. Once the work is complete, a new Electrical COC is required for the alterations. We can advise on upgrades that keep the character of the home while meeting SANS 10142-1, and we can issue the certificate when the work is finished.
Beetle And Plumbing Certificates
Homes with a lot of original timber often need a Beetle Certificate for a sale, and in Cape Town a Plumbing (Water) COC is required on transfer. We can issue both alongside the Electrical COC in one booking.

Do I need an Electrical COC to sell a property in Devil’s Peak Estate?
Yes. An Electrical Certificate of Compliance is required whenever a property in South Africa changes ownership, and in Cape Town a Plumbing (Water) COC is also required on transfer. My home is over 100 years old. Will it need a full rewire?

We are restoring our home. When should we get the COC?
Plan the electrical work while floors and ceilings are open, then have the alterations certified when the work is complete. We can advise at the planning stage.
Do I need a Beetle Certificate for an older home?
A Beetle Certificate is often required by the buyer, the bank or the sale agreement for homes with a lot of timber. We can issue it with your other certificates.
What happens if my Devil’s Peak Estate property doesn’t pass?
