What We Design Around In Kalk Bay
Harbour Salt Air On Panels
Kalk Bay’s constant harbour humidity and salt air are tougher on panel frames and mounting hardware than almost anywhere else in Cape Town, so we use corrosion-resistant fixings.
Heritage Cottage Roofs
Many Kalk Bay properties are Victorian and Edwardian cottages with older roof structures, which we assess for load capacity before mounting any system.
Steep, Narrow Street Access
Kalk Bay’s steep, narrow streets above the harbour affect equipment access, which we plan for ahead of installation.
Solar Installation In Kalk Bay’s Harbour Village
Kalk Bay’s harbour humidity and salt air are harder on solar hardware than most Cape Town suburbs, so corrosion-resistant mounting and connectors matter more here. The suburb’s Victorian and Edwardian cottages also often have older roof structures, which we assess for load capacity before any panel installation.
Sizing Your Kalk Bay System
We plan equipment access around Kalk Bay’s steep, narrow streets, and design mounting to suit older roof profiles rather than assuming a standard modern roof structure.
Compliance & Registration
Whether it’s a harbour-front cottage or a home higher up the hillside, we handle SSEG registration and compliance as part of every Kalk Bay installation.

We Don't Just Install — We Maintain
At Thermo Group, our relationship with our Kalk Bay clients doesn’t end at installation.
We offer ongoing solar maintenance and fault-finding for Kalk Bay properties, helping catch issues from local conditions before they affect your system’s performance. Our team can assist with panel cleaning, inverter servicing, battery health checks and general system maintenance.
Regular checks help identify potential problems before they cause an outage or affect your system’s output.
SSEG & City of Cape Town Registration
Installing a solar system is only part of the process. Where required, your system must also be properly documented and registered with the City of Cape Town.
Thermo Group can assist clients with the SSEG application and registration process, helping ensure that the required documentation, electrical compliance requirements and system information are correctly dealt with.
Our goal is to make the process as straightforward as possible for the property owner.

How long does a solar installation take in Kalk Bay?
Most residential installations take 1 to 3 days on site, depending on system size and roof complexity, plus the time needed for approvals.
