What We Design Around In Edgemead

🏚️

Older Roof & DB Conditions

Edgemead’s 1970s-80s homes often need a roof condition check and DB board upgrade before a solar system can be safely connected — we assess this at the first site visit.

⚡

Load-Shedding Priorities

Most Edgemead solar enquiries are about backup power first and savings second; we size battery capacity around keeping essential circuits running through outages.

🏡

Established Roof Layouts

Edgemead’s original roof designs and orientations vary street to street; we plan panel layout and cabling around each property’s actual roof rather than a standard template.

Why An Edgemead Solar Installation Isn’t A Generic Cape Town Job

Edgemead’s housing stock is largely original 1970s-80s construction, and roofs and distribution boards of that era weren’t built with solar in mind. We check roof condition, tile or sheeting type, and DB capacity before finalising a design, so the installation doesn’t uncover problems halfway through. Many homeowners in the area are prioritising backup power for load-shedding as much as long-term savings, and we size systems accordingly.

Solar Installations Built Around Edgemead Homes

From the initial site survey through installation, compliance and registration, we handle the complete process for Edgemead homeowners, including any preliminary electrical work an older property needs before a solar system can be safely connected.

As trusted solar contractors serving Edgemead, our qualified solar installers provide dedicated solar panel maintenance and PV system maintenance plans, so your investment keeps performing at its best for years to come.

We Don't Just Install — We Maintain

At Thermo Group, our relationship with our Edgemead clients doesn’t end when the solar installation is complete.

We offer ongoing maintenance and servicing for Edgemead solar systems, helping ensure equipment keeps operating safely and efficiently despite the valley’s mist and harbour salt air. Our team can assist with inspections, fault finding, inverter issues, battery systems, electrical connections and general system maintenance.

Regular maintenance can also help identify potential problems before they become expensive failures.

SSEG & City of Cape Town Registration

Installing a solar system is only part of the process. Where required, your system must also be properly documented and registered with the City of Cape Town.

Thermo Group can assist clients with the SSEG application and registration process, helping ensure that the required documentation, electrical compliance requirements and system information are correctly dealt with.

Our goal is to make the process as straightforward as possible for the property owner.

Edgemead Solar Installation FAQs

How much does solar installation cost in Edgemead?

It depends on your household’s usage and system size. A small backup system for essentials costs far less than a system covering your whole home. We assess your usage and roof before quoting.

How long does a solar installation take in Edgemead?

Most residential installations take 1 to 3 days on site, depending on system size and roof layout, plus time for approvals.

Are Edgemead roofs suitable for solar?

Most Edgemead homes have good roof space and orientation for solar. We check the roof structure, orientation and shading from trees or neighbouring buildings before designing the system.

Will solar keep my home running during load shedding?

Yes. A correctly installed and configured solar and battery system keeps your essential circuits running, and we handle the City of Cape Town SSEG registration.

Do you also handle compliance certificates and maintenance?

Yes. We issue the Solar Certificate of Compliance and offer ongoing maintenance and fault-finding for any system.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Thermo Group delivered exceptional service from start to finish. From my first contact with Nikita who listened to me & responded urgently, to the electricians Alfred and Phato who arrived promptly, quickly found the problem and returned over the weekend to make repairs at short notice and even waited without complaint for 2 hours for the municipal contractor, to Warwick who was available around the clock and went above and beyond to check in with me and to get the City to restore my power after it simply closed my case after 6 hours. The team’s professionalism, clear communication and follow-through, genuine care and support are rare. I highly recommend Thema Group.
