Solar Maintenance & Repairs Simon's Town
Simon’s Town sits right on the edge of False Bay, a historic naval town where sea spray and salt air reach every rooftop, not just the ones with a harbour view. Thermo Group services and repairs solar installations across Simon’s Town, from the Victorian and Cape Dutch homes along the historic main road to the newer properties higher up the hillside toward Boulders Beach.
Whether your system is underperforming, an inverter has thrown an error, or it’s simply time for its annual service, we know what Simon’s Town properties need that a standard inland maintenance visit often misses — accelerated corrosion from sea air, heritage-restricted rooftops, and older buildings that were never wired with solar in mind. Keeping Simon's Town's Solar Systems Running At Their Best
Here is what a Thermo Group solar maintenance visit in Simon’s Town actually involves:
Full System Inspection
We check panels, mounting, DC and AC wiring, isolators, earthing and the inverter itself, paying close attention to what False Bay’s salt air does faster here than almost anywhere else in Cape Town: corrosion on fixings, connectors and unprotected metal.
Performance & Fault Check
We pull the inverter logs, test string performance, and compare actual output against what your system should be generating, catching corrosion-related connection faults before they become a full breakdown.
Panel & Roof Assessment
Salt deposits build up on panels here faster than inland, cutting output if left unchecked. We check for salt film, corrosion on mounting rails and clips, and any roof-mounting issues that come with age and sea exposure.
Clear Report & Fix
You get a plain-language report of what we found. If something needs fixing — a corroded connector, a loose fitting, an underperforming string — we quote it and can usually action minor repairs on the same visit.

Salt Air Is The Real Enemy Here
Simon’s Town’s position right on False Bay means every solar installation in the area is fighting a slower, quieter battle against corrosion that inland suburbs simply don’t face. Unprotected fixings, exposed cable glands and older mounting hardware corrode noticeably faster this close to the sea. We check specifically for this during every visit, because a fault caused by corrosion is far cheaper to fix at the connector than after it has taken out an inverter.
Heritage Rules, Modern Solar
Many properties along the Simon’s Town main road and historic quarter fall under heritage overlay controls, which can affect what’s visible from the street and how equipment is mounted. We work within these constraints, keeping installations tidy and compliant while still getting the performance and access our technicians need to service the system properly.
Steep Streets, Careful Access
Simon’s Town’s hillside streets are narrow, steep and often tightly parked, especially near the harbour and Boulders Beach in tourist season. We plan our visits around this, so getting our van and equipment to your property doesn’t turn into half the appointment.
A Naval Town With Older Housing Stock
A lot of the homes we service in Simon’s Town predate solar by decades. When we find a distribution board, earthing or isolator setup that isn’t quite right for the system that’s been added to it, we say so, and we can correct it and issue the relevant Certificate of Compliance in the same visit rather than leaving it as someone else’s problem.
Load Shedding Backup For Coastal Homes
If your battery isn’t carrying the household through load shedding the way it used to, or you’re considering adding capacity, we assess your actual usage rather than just topping up what’s already there — accounting for how salt-air corrosion can quietly reduce a battery or inverter’s working life here.
We Work On Systems We Did Not Install
Most of our Simon’s Town clients did not have their solar installed by us originally. That’s fine — we service, maintain and repair systems from any installer and most major brands, including SunSynk hybrid inverters, which we install and repair regularly across the peninsula.
Why Simon’s Town Trusts Thermo Group
We’re a full electrical, solar and compliance company, which matters on a coastal property where the solar system, the distribution board and the rest of the house’s electrics all have to hold up against the same salt air. We’ve helped homeowners across Simon’s Town keep their solar installations running reliably despite the coastal conditions, and we bring the same standard to a routine service as we do to a full fault-finding visit.

My go to team from now on. My municipalty main supply in my dB desided to short to neutral and burn 22:00 on a Saturday evening, and the municipality breaker did not trip. It was fireworks inside my house, not a good sight or feeling. After phoning 10 different electrical companies stateing 24/7 on call, some even answering and saying they will only come the next day as it is late, Warwick had no hesitation to come through and assist. The house would have burned down if it was not for Warwick. He stayed the entire time to ensure the municipality shuts off the power to my house, worked on my dB till 03:00 in the morning to ensure we can power up safely again and wanted to still clean where he worked. Great service, great work ethics, great quality standards. Thanks again.Posted on Google![]()

Gamielda worked the appointment. Simon and Mvuso attended the project. Professional and service perfect! Happy customer my side - well done Thermo team - you work well as a team! Thank you!
How often should a Simon’s Town solar system be serviced?
Every 6 to 12 months. Simon’s Town’s exposed False Bay position means salt-laden sea air and the strong summer South-Easter wind take a heavier toll on panels, mounting hardware and connectors than more sheltered suburbs experience.
My system was not installed by Thermo Group, can you still service it?
Yes. Most of the systems we maintain and repair in Simon’s Town were installed by other companies. We work across all the major brands and inverter types found in the area, including SunSynk.
Does Simon’s Town’s naval and heritage housing stock affect solar maintenance?
It can. Many Simon’s Town homes are older heritage properties along the coast road, and roof structures and DB boards here often need extra care when accessing or upgrading mounting points. We work carefully around these older installations.
Do you service properties out near Boulders Beach and further along the coast?
Yes, we cover Simon’s Town and the surrounding coastal stretch down to Boulders and beyond. Distance from central Cape Town doesn’t affect scheduling — we plan the visit in.
Can you size a bigger battery for load shedding backup?
Yes. We assess your actual household usage before recommending additional battery capacity, rather than guessing at a size.
What if you find an electrical issue unrelated to the solar system?
We will tell you plainly what we found. As a full electrical and compliance company, we can usually fix it and issue the relevant Certificate of Compliance in the same visit.
